Every day proves to be a difficult day for each of our injured veterans and their families. Many of their physical and mental injuries affect their ability to stay in the military. After a disability discharge, those same physical and mental injuries make it nearly impossible to hold down a regular job and participate in daily home life. It takes months and even years to receive disability and VA support leaving a huge financial gap they must cover while they wait out the system. As a result, their living circumstances have become more challenging with every month that goes by.
We recently received a request from the wife of a veteran explaining their very personal story. Her husband suffered a traumatic brain injury in Iraq which resulted in him experiencing constant migraines and other health problems. She has had to take time off work for personal health reasons and to take care of her husband resulting in 12 full weeks with no pay.
Like so many, this family has found themselves in a tight financial position. Although they have paid most of their bills this month – they will have a tough next month. They won’t be able to meet their mortgage payment, utilities or car payments. Furthermore, they cannot afford school clothes and supplies for their youngest son.
We receive stories like this one every week. Sometimes it is as simple as keeping the water on for one month or getting their car fixed, so they are able to get to their much-needed medical appointments. Other times it keeps a roof over their children’s heads and food on their table. Each family receives what they need to bridge the gap.

To ensure that your donation goes to eligible families, not to unnecessary overhead, Operation Family Fund was founded with private donations and is run by volunteers. There is no paid staff. Mandatory and discretionary cost are paid by volunteers and donors for that purpose.
